It was a great evening for W.Bro. Glen Coneley, P.G.J.D. on Wednesday 18th March, when he was installed for the third time as Worshipful Master of Hothampton Lodge of Mark Master Masons No703, by his very good friend W.Bro. Tom Batten, Prov.G.J.D..
W.Bro. Glen regaled that when he was installed as Worshipful Master in 2008, it was his first chair in his Masonic career.
W.Bro. Glen expressed a big thank you Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Roger F Richardson. Deputy Provincial Grand Master W.Bro. David B Dumigan, P.G.S.D. Past Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Martin Wilson and a Team of Provincial Officers who attended.
W.Bro. Glen stated, “This Installation meeting will live with me for a long time. God bless you”

On the morning of Tuesday 17th March at East Brighton Masonic Centre within Amity Lodge of MMM No. 1931, Bro. Neil Austin, (Sussex Craft, Provincial Grand Master) was Advanced into Mark Masonry and W.Bro. Michael Stocker, (Sussex Royal Arch, Deputy Grand Superintendent) was Installed into the Chair of Adoniram. A busy morning!
The Advancement ceremony was conducted by the tried and tested double act of R.W.Bro. Roger Richardson, Provincial Grand Master and V.W.Bro. Chris Moore, P.G.M.O., (Sussex Craft Past Provincial Grand Master). It was a great occasion with superb delivery of ritual, highlighting the FOURTH regular step in Freemasonry. The key floor work was led by the Senior Deacon, W.Bro. Mark Hoare, G.Stwd. Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, with a notable contribution from the Master Overseer Bro. Geoffrey Draper, (Sussex Craft, Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master).
W.Bro. Richard Wigmore, (Sussex Royal Arch, Past Deputy Grand Superintendent) returned to his rightful place as Worshipful Master and undertook a first-class installation ceremony rounded off by an excellent Address to the new Master. In like manner, the other addresses by W.Bro. Ivor Bennett, G.S.D., W.Bro. Robert Martin, (Sussex Royal Arch, Past Deputy Grand Superintendent) and W.Bro. Glen Coneley, P.G.J.D. were very well delivered.
In addition, the lodge welcomed the following joining members: W.Bro. Dudley Wensley, (Middlesex Craft, Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master), Bro Tim Ashdown, (Sussex Craft, Assistant Provincial Grand Master) and W.Bro. John Hornblow, P.Prov.G.I.G. (Sussex Craft, Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master).
A fine buffet lunch rounded off proceedings to the satisfaction of everyone.

Bexhill Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 1058 held their Installation meeting on 26th February at the Bexhill Masonic Centre. W.Bro. Mark Bradshaw, Provincial Grand Junior Warden had the honour of representing the Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Roger F. Richardson. He was accompanied by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. David Dumigan, and Escorted by W.Bro. Mark Hoare Ceremonies, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies.
W.Bro. Richard Beaden was installed as Worshipful Commander for the ensuing year by W.Bro. James Ewen Bailey, ably assisted by his Officers and supported by visiting Brethren.
The Festive Board followed at the Bexhill Rowing Club, held jointly with Bexhill Mark Lodge No. 1058, providing a most enjoyable conclusion to the day’s proceedings.
As for the Deputy Provincial Grand Master’s apron it is perhaps best left for the moment?

Bexhill Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1058 held its regular meeting on Thursday 26th February at the Bexhill Masonic Centre, hot on the heels of the earlier Bexhill Lodge Royal Ark Mariners No. 1058. A relatively short business meeting today, however, was still enjoyable.
The Deputy Provincial Grand Master was made to stand at the back due to his earlier Apron antics during the Bexhill Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 1058 photographs.
The festive Board was held afterwards at the Bexhill Rowing Club in conjunction with Bexhill Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 1058.

The ‘Magic of the Mark’ was very much in evidence at Eastbourne Lodge Mark Master Masons No. 484, hot on the heels of the earlier Eastbourne Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 484 meeting.
Another highly successful evening saw the Advancement of Bro. Michael (Mick) Oliver, Past Master of East Sussex Services Lodge. We were also pleased to ballot for W.Bro. Jason Holt of Lewis Lodge Mark Master Masons No. 391 as a re-joining member.
The Ceremony of Advancement was superbly delivered by the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Jay Shah, ably assisted by W.Bro. Eddie Braillard, W.Bro. Trevor Hamlyn, and the Lodge Officers.
Following the meeting, we dined together in the Temple for our annual Burns Night Supper, enjoying traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. A raffle held during the evening raised £100, which will be donated to St Wilfrid’s Hospice, Eastbourne.

Eastbourne Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No.484 got off to a tremendous start last night with the Elevation of Bro. Trefor Williams, a Mark Master Mason of Eastbourne Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 484. We were also delighted to welcome W.Bro. Eric Forster as a joining member.
The ceremony was expertly conducted by our Worshipful Commander, W.Bro. Jonathan Payne R.A.M.G.R., with excellent support from his officers. Proceedings were followed by a convivial Burns Night Supper, where we enjoyed Haggis, Neeps and Tatties in the Temple alongside our companions from Eastbourne Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 484.

Southdown Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No. 164 welcomed its newest member on Thursday by Elevating Bro. Mike Stocker (Deputy Superintendent in the Royal Arch in Sussex).
W.Bro. Mike Sayer in the Worshipful Commander’s chair conducted an excellent ceremony, assisted by W.Bro. Mike Lycett who explained the signs and working tools.
There was a good turnout of Mariners at the Birch Hotel in Haywards Heath to support the meeting and enjoy a first-class festive board.

W.Bro. Andrew Kilvington P.A.G.Std.B was joined by members of Sussex Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No. 1747 who assisted with the Ceremony of Advancement. Leading the support from the Mark Stewards Lodge was their Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Mike Fahey P.A.G.D.C. who acted as Junior Warden for the night and W.Bros. Jack Rose, Mike Lycett, Ian Holt, Kevin Parsons and several others who attended to support and just in case an officer was needed. W.Bro. Kilvington thanked all those who attended to support this Mark Lodge.
Joining members were W.Bro. Brian Lawrence and W.Bro. David Lanz. and the newly advanced Mark Master Mason was Bro. Graham Knight.

On Tuesday 13th January Royal Sussex Mark Lodge held its first meeting of the year at the Hove Club, 28 Fourth Ave, Hove. W.Bro. Michael Whitty was Installed as Worshipful Master and in attendance with the support by R.W.Bro. Roger FRichardson Prov.G.M. and his escort W.Bro. Mark Hoare G.Stwd., Prov.G.D.C. who attended as Provincial guests. The meeting was unique occasion where Executive and visitors combined to take various roles at different times during the ceremony.
The Worshipful Master W.Bro. Michael Whitty gave a wonderful response to the Master’s toast.
The festive board was superb three course meal of Prawns, Steak and a very generous cheese board.

Regnum Mark Lodge No. 568 held its regular meeting at Chichester on 8th January 2026.
As the candidate booked for the evening was unable to make it through business commitments, W. Bro. Glen Coneley P.G.J.D. stepped in and recited the Mark Degree Lecture for the benefit of the assembled Brethren. And what a fun evening it was with W. Bro. Glen giving a faultless rendition of the Lecture in his unique, light-hearted and sincere manner.
The atmosphere then continued at the Festive Board, at the completion of which all went away after having enjoyed a fine meal in the company of equally fine Mark Master Masons. Roll on March for the next meeting!

Congratulations to W.Bro. Ivor Bennett R.A.M.G.R. and W.Bro. Jeremy Griffin R.A.M.G.R. who received their preferment to Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank, on Monday 8th December at the Annual Royal Ark Mariner Grand Assembly.
Several Sussex Royal Ark Mariners lead by the Prov.G.M. R.W.Bro. Roger Richardson. R.A.M.G.R. attended the meeting at Great Queen Street, which was followed by pre-lunch libations then a Christmas Lunch on the balcony of the Connaught Rooms.
Before the brethren wended their way home, there was much convivial and humorous banter in The George.

West Sussex Mark Lodge No. 453 , supported by an SMBF matched funding donation, presented £900 to Ferring Country Centre (Charity no. 297286) that enabled the purchase of equipment for their new dance studio.
W.Bro. David Dumigan, Deputy Provincial Grand Master, accompanied by W.Bro. Rick Fallowfield IPM of 453 were welcomed to the Centre and were able to see the fabulous new dance studio for themselves and learn more about the difference it will make to the adults with learning disabilities who attend Ferring Country Centre.
Rick, during his year as WM, chose the charity because his son used to attend the Centre for therapy riding.
Rick also transports some of the Day Service Customers to the Centre – so he knows just how special this place is!

Grand Master’s Keystone Fund Lodge
On Friday 1st November R.W.Bro. Roger F Richardson, Prov.G.M. visited Thornton Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No 631. Unfortunately, W.Cdr. John Johnson was unable to attend due to illness. However, W.Cdr. Brian Protheroe took over the helm at short notice and sailed the Lodge through the rough seas with great skill.
R.W.Bro. Roger Richardson a Trustee of the Mark Benevolent Fund was delighted to present the Lodge with its Grand Masters Keystone Fund Jewel. The first Royal Ark Mariner Lodge to qualify to be a Grand Masters Keystone Fund Lodge in Sussex.
The Grand Masters Keystone Fund (GMKF) was initiated to celebrate the Prince Michael of Kent’s 40 years as the Grand Master of Mark Master Masons. The fund is planned to be used to fund the education or training of dependents of Freemasons, who are administered by Mark Mason Hall (MMH).
All units and Freemasons, which are administered by MMH are able to qualify for a GMKF Jewel. Details are available via MMH – GMKF link.

On a glorious Sunday afternoon at the home of M.Ill.Kt. Graham L. Flight, (Red Cross of Constantine, Grand Sovereign) and his lovely wife, Sue, hosted a well-attended Summer Hog Roast for family and friends of Sussex Companion Orders members (Mark, K.T., R.C.C. & R.&S.M.) in Framfield, nr Uckfield.
Over 130 attended, bringing an assortment of tables, chairs, parasols, and gazebos (for those seeking shelter from the sun) to enjoy a very pleasant afternoon eating, drinking, socialising, and basking in the beautiful weather and the superb surroundings.
Entertainment, which enhanced the afternoon, was provided by R.Ill.Comp. Bernard Marchant (Dist.G.M. R.&S.M.), on guitar and vocals accompanied by R.Ill.Kt. Paul Rose (Div.Int.Gen. R.C.C.) on bass guitar, captivating their audience with hits from yesteryear. R.W.Bro. Roger Richardson (Prov.G.M. Mark), and W.Bro. Tom Batten (Mark), provided additional vocals, which wowed the crowd.
Amongst the many presentations, R.Ill.Kt. Paul Rose, took the opportunity to present M.Ill.Kt. Graham L. Flight a new Grand Sovereign Cap.
The team of organisers lead by R.E.Kt. Colin Dann (Prov.Prior. K.T.) and R.Ill.Comp. Bernard Marchant (Dist.G.M. R.&S.M.), ably assisted by R.W.Bro Roger Richardson (Prov.G.M. Mark), R.Ill.Kt. Paul Rose (Div.Int.Gen. R.C.C.), were justly thanked for their magnificent efforts in putting on a wonderful afternoon that flowed seamlessly and everyone left very happy and content.

The Prov.G.M. R.W.Bro. Roger Richardson showed that he has the Magic of the Mark at his fingertips on Monday 17th June. When he stepped in at short notice to Install W.Bro. Paul Hollebone as the Worshipful Master of Sussex Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No 1747. The ceremony was faultless with meaning and sincerity.
W.Bro. Paul invested his officers in his own ineffable way, and the Lodge donated £500 to the Sussex Mark Benevolent Fund.
All present enjoyed a happy friendly meeting and retired to the bar for much bonhomie.
The festive board was enjoyed by all, especially the toast to W.Bro. Paul by V.W.Bro. Chris Farrow and Paul’s humorous reply.

On Thursday 6th June at Mid-Sussex Golf Club, Adrian Verco & Ivor Bennett, represented the Sussex Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge No 1747 and managed to combine their golfing prowess to win the SMGA Inter-Lodge Trophy.
Unfortunately, the SMGA Captain Peter Woolgar was unable to present the Trophy but was please to congratulate Adrian & Ivor.

Less than 24 hours after E.Comp. Robert (Bob) Brown was appointed 2nd Provincial Grand Principal at the Annual Sussex Royal Arch Convocation, in Brighton, Bro. Bob was Advanced into Amity Lodge of MMM No. 1931 at Peacehaven.
Prior to the ceremony of Advancement, W.Bro. Toby Pratt took the chair (at very short notice) to induct, with style and ability, the Master elect, V.W.Bro. Dries Van Der Burgh. Dries then conducted a faultless Advancement Ceremony with contributions from lodge members to welcome Bro. Bob as the latest Mark Master Mason in Sussex.

We were honoured by the Prov.G.M.s (non-official) visit last night to the Herstmonceux Masonic Centre taking on the role of Senior Deacon for us and looking after Bro. David and what a splendid job he did for us! After which he presented a Grand Lodge Certificate to Bro. Barry Murphy.
The Festive Board was held at the Merrie Harriers, in Cowbeach, Great Company, Good Food, Wine and most importantly a lot of FUN was had by all.

On Thursday 1st February, V.W.Bro. Dries van der Burgh was proclaimed Worshipful Master of the Hova Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 168 for a second year. The lodge will celebrate its 150th year in October 2024 and preparations are underway.

Lewis Lodge of Mark Master Masons - Burns Night
The members of Lewis Mark met on a cold and blustery January evening to celebrate the life of Robert Burns. After a short (very short) business meeting, we all decamped down to the Kings Church Lewes to a sumptuous festive board. The beer, wines and soft drinks flowed, the laughter, conviviality and jokes were aplenty and smiles all around.
Our Worshipful Master W.Bro. Graham Isted) welcomed all the Ladies, Guests and Brethren and the first course of Cullen Skink was served, as the starter was cleared the Wild Highlander, Bro. Angus Rhodes was joined by our Piper, on this occasion, Ralph Potter, and the Haggis was processed around the room before being placed at the centre.
Angus then went on to explain who Robert Burns was before launching into his incredible address to the Haggis, with a twist (you’ll have to see it to find out what!). After which the main of Haggis, Neaps and Tatties was served with Whisky. W.Bro. Freddy (with a “Y”) jokingly asked a waitress for Tomato Ketchup, which promptly arrived, please see this photo below.
This followed with Cranachan as dessert at which stage a raffle was undertaken, the secretary had requested “the weirder the prize, sometimes the better” which challenge was taken on by all the members, one of whom, who still hasn’t come forward I might add, wrapped up a Grease DVD, 2 bottles of Leffe Blonde and a Terrys Chocolate Orange, calling it a “Greasy Night for One”…
The Raffle raised a very goodly sum for a local Charity; The Malling Food Bank, who are based within the Kings Church, and we have been supporting.
After the coffee was served, we all drifted off into the Night, happier for the company we had had and the food we had eaten, some merrier than others. Our Burns Night was another huge success for the lodge with another 2 candidates coming from it and I am sure I heard there might even be a further 2! What a great advert for ‘The Magic of the Mark’

Heffle Lodge of Mark Master Masons No1530 had a lovely meeting the evening of Wednesday 24th January.
V.W.Bro. Chris Farrow P.Dep.Prov.G.M. preformed a word prefect Lecture of the Degree, which was followed a short discussion and an impossible question from Bro. Cullen Sage.
This was followed by a superb festive board!

On Saturday 20th January 2024 at the East Brighton Masonic Centre in Peacehaven. The Mark Provincial Grand Master R.W.Bro. Roger F. Richardson was in attendance accompanied by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. David B. Dumigan and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master W.Bro. Adrian L. Verco and the Provincial Team of Officers.
The Lodge was also privileged to welcome R.W.Bro. Terence D. Sheern, Provincial Grand Master for the Province of Essex Mark and Worshipful Master for The Middlesex Armed Forces Lodge of Mark Master Masons and R.W.Bro. Eddy R. Garty, Provincial Grand Master for the Province of Middlesex Mark and Worshipful Master for the Essex Armed Forces Lodge of Mark Master Masons.
The Provincial Grand Master then presented the Amended Warrant confirming the change of the Lodge name from ‘Charles H Mosse Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1375’ to ‘Charles H Mosse Military Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1375’. The Worshipful Master W.Bro. Chris Denham was declared as Master Elect to serve a second year as our Worshipful Master along with the Treasurer W.Bro. Paul Grevatt.
The Provincial Grand Master presented a Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master’s Collarette to V.W.Bro. Chris Farrow for his valued services to the Sussex Mark Province as Assistant Provincial Grand Master and Deputy Provincial Grand Master.
W.Bro. Michael Lycett, P.Prov.G.I.G. was then welcomed as joining member of the Lodge. This was followed by a most interesting talk by Bro. Paul Harman “My time serving on the Royal Yacht ‘Britannia” after which the meeting was brought to a close.
A most enjoyable ‘Festive Board’ was then held downstairs in the dining room with Commemorative Tin Mugs being given to all the Lodge members. Pudding was served to a select few out of Aluminium Mess Tins (yes). W.Bro. Chris Denham presented the Prov.G.M. a Commemorative Tin Mug and a diagram of the Vulcan Electrical System (Roger likes that kind of thing) and Maps of Iceland and Belfast were given to our guests R.W.Bro. Terence Sheern and R.W.Bro. Eddy Garty – Don’t even ask!

It has been a very busy week in the Mark Degree. W.Bro. David Dumigan Deputy Provincial Grand Master visited Adur Lodge of MMM No. 386 to witness W.Bro. Graham Hardley invested as Worshipful Master in the lodge’s 138th year. W.Bro. Steve Davis performed a wonderful ceremony, assisted by W.Bro. Simon Larard, Prov.G.Sec. The addresses from W.Bro’s Bill Symonds and Paul Gosling were first class and a wonderful Festive Board followed the ceremonial. Although numbers where small the Magic of the Mark was in evidence and a great evening was had by all.

On Monday 8th January, Bro. Daffyd Ceiriog-Hughes became Worshipful Commander for the first time, being Installed by W.Bro. Alan Wakeham and W.Bro. Jack Rose P.G.J.D.
During the ceremony Daffyd’s father, W.Bro. John Hughes stood in as Son Japheth, which made the ceremony interesting, the son, calling the father, son! It was a wonderful ceremony that was enjoyed by all.
W.Bro. David Dumigan Dep.Prov.G.M. attended as the Provincial representative, with W.Bro. Mike Jackson Prov.Dep.G.D.C. as his escort.
At the Festive board the Lodge donated £100 to the SMBF. A good time was had by all!!!

Mark Hoare, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, who marshalled a retinue of senior provincial officers to a wonderful evening at Hothampton Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 703 in Bognor. Bro. John Coombs of Pagham Craft Lodge No. 8280 was Advanced by W.Bro. Guy Purser from the Chair with very capable and significant assistance from officers of the lodge including W.Bro. Malcolm Brown and W.Bro. Trevor Lee, as well as the Lodge Director of Ceremonies, W. Bro. Glen Coneley. A great time was enjoyed by all at the Festive Board which followed.“

On Wednesday 15th November the Southdown Lodge of Mark Masters Masons No.164 celebrated 150 years. The P.Dep.G.M. R.W.Bro. Keith Emerson presented the Sesquicentenary Certificate to the lodge. The Prov.G.M. Roger Richardson was in attendance along with the Ass.Prov.G.M. and a Provincial Team.

Temperance Motorcycling Lodge of MMM No 978 Kick started the new Masonic season yesterday at Bognor. A packed agenda saw the proclamation of the WM, W.Bro. Simon Langton for a further year in the chair and the Advancement of Bro. Matthew Rutherford. It was a splendid meeting followed by an excellent festive board of fish and chips. Well done everyone, especially the Secretary W.Bro. Mike Fahey and Director of Ceremonies W.Bro. Tom Harty for delivering on well laid plans.

Mark Grand Lodge - Tuesday 12th September
At the meeting of Mark Grand Lodge on Tuesday 12th September Sussex were well represented. A splendid meeting held in the Grand Temple, Great Queen Street was presided over by the Pro Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother John Prizeman who reported the apologies of the Grand Master. He then proceeded to invest those Grand Officers who had been promoted (the June meeting was for first appointments and active officers).
The Pro noted to David Dumigan, on his promotion to Senior Grand Deacon, “David, you’re well supported”, as Sussex brethren made their presence heard at the appropriate time in the temple.
The Festive Board, held next door at the Connaught Rooms, was a great spectacle with good food, company and wine as Sussex dominated the balcony seating, arranged by Glen Coneley.
If you’ve not attended Grand Lodge for a meeting, you should place it on you list of “things to do.”

V.W.Bro. Chris Farrow, Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master displayed his highly skilled ability to deliver ritual earlier this week. He took the Chair and conducted a superb Advancement ceremony at Wellington Lodge of MMM No. 1566 which, some say, is the best Mark Lodge in the entire Universe; unless, of course, you know better?
At the Festive Board Chris was presented with a cake to thank him and celebrate the passing of another year.
You may mock but in addition to the Past DPGM conducting the ceremony on his birthday, our esteemed ProvG.M. R.W.Bro. Roger Richardson not only graced us with his presence, he delivered the ‘In Conclusion’ to our Advancee whose Wedding Anniversary it was.

Following the cancellation of the Inter-Provincial Cricket on Sunday 23rd July, it was decided that the Provincial Cricket Cake would be donated to the high dependency Children’s unit at University Hospital Sussex, below is response from Alice Heywood the senior nurse.
Hi,
Sorry the afternoon got a bit crazy! We did manage to enjoy the cake and delivered some to all the wards for the children, families and nurses to enjoy.
The high dependency ward cares for critically ill children requiring a large range of complex medical care, some of those who have been with us for a very long time. We also delivered cake to the medical and surgical ward, along with the Children’s oncology unit and Children’s Emergency Department. The cake was a lovely treat for the families going through some really tough times and the children loved it!

Thank you so much again! It was a very yummy cake and was really appreciated by everyone!

Those nice people at the Apuldram Centre near Chichester invited Trustee Colin Ballard to see the new kitchen-to-café walkway cover that the Sussex Craft had helped to finance. As the Sussex Mark had collaborated with the Craft on a previous project for the Centre I was also invited for a cup of tea, look-round and a tour as well. As you can see from the photo, the walkway cover is doing its job well as it was raining at the time! This would be an opportune moment to remind the brethren of the Mark in Sussex to consider making a donation to the Sussex Mark Benevolent Fund (SMBF) either as a one-off payment, or a standing order would also be nice – please see your Lodge Charity Steward for details on how to do this. To the Lodges, may I bring it to their attention to consider holding a raffle on Installation nights – the proceeds can be presented to the PGM’s rep in attendance at the meeting. Also, if you are aware of any worthy cause, society or institution in need who are based in Sussex, and you think we may be able to assist them, then please contact myself or your own Lodge’s Charity Steward to get the ball rolling.

It’s Incredible!
It’s Incredible! The MBF & SMBF Help Incredible Design Co
Two branches of the Mark Benevolent Fund came together this week at the ‘Incredible Design Company’ – a charity based near Lewes in Sussex.
The charity supports severely disabled adults who are unable to access traditional employment, but who still wish to take part in work at a level and pace suitable to each individual.
The Incredible Design Company needed new specialised printing equipment to continue their work and to allow more people access the facilities. The Mark Benevolent Fund was asked by the Sussex MBF to help make up the difference in the project cost. The Sussex MBF awarded £4,000 and the balance was supported nationally by the Mark Benevolent Fund raising the total needed of £16,950. A great example of the MBF working together for local charities and communities.
Many of the people who work here are former residents or attendees of the nearby ‘Chailey Heritage Foundation’, a charity that has been supported by the MBF in the past. However, once they reach the age of 21 this support cannot be continued at the foundation and this is where the Incredible Design Company steps in.
Word is already spreading of the work of the firm and the Province of Warwickshire has already placed and order for their 2027 MBF Festival merchandise. What a wonderful way to help a charity help other charities.

Dining in Lewes is always a bit of a moving target as there are no facilities for this in the Lewes Centre. Recently some of the Lewes Units have been dining at the King’s Church where the Malling Food Bank is also administered.
Following the Festive Board for Lewis RAM on the 9th May Brother Steve Childs presented Anna Scott, the Administrator for the Food Bank, with a cheque from the Lodge for £100.

Hailsham RAM No. 1234 held its installation meeting on Friday 14th April 2023 at the Masonic Centre in Herstmonceux. We were honoured by the presence of R.W.Bro. Roger F Richardson, The Provincial Grand Master, escorted by W.Bro. Andy Knight.
W.Bro David Hendrie Installed W.Bro. John Hornblow into the Worshipful Commanders Chair in an exemplary manner, after which W.Bro John Hornblow installed his officers for the ensuing year.
Following the meeting, we dined at the Merrie Harriers Pub, good food, great company, and good fun, also on the menu were discussions about Scum Buckets and Field Rats, unique of course to Hailsham RAM No.1234.

W.Bro. Colin Stanley, the Provincial Grand Senior Warden, was in attendance at Hothampton Lodge No. 703 at the Gordon Centre in Bognor Regis on Wednesday 15th March. During the evening he offered to present a Grand Lodge certificate to one of the new members, and this he did in his usual exemplary style.
At this meeting W.Bro. Guy Purser was installed as Worshipful Master by the outgoing Master, W.Bro. Nat Andrade, in what was acknowledged to be a very moving ceremony. Our new W.M. then proceeded to invest the officers of his year in a superlative manner. Later, he presented a cheque from the Lodge to W.Bro. Colin as a donation to the Sussex Mark Benevolent Fund.
The Festive Board followed and a fine menu comprising brie wedges, roast beef and Belgian chocolate truffle was enjoyed by all.

The only word to describe Pulborough Mark’s 250th meeting is “theatre”! A Provincial Team led by Dep.Prov.G.M. V.W. Bro. Chris Farrow enjoyed a spectacular show as Bro. Mike Wragge was Advanced by the fantastic lead actor, Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Craig Brawley and his well-drilled support team of officers. Everyone played their part in giving Mike a marvellous introduction to Mark masonry and all those attending were given a meeting they will remember for a long time. The festive board at the River Moon was a delightful Thai meal, enjoyed by everyone.

On Monday 20th February at the Masonic Centre, Brighton, W.Bro. Gregory Shackleton was installed as Worshipful Commander by W.Bro. Paul James in splendid fashion. The Provincial Grand Master R.W.Bro. Roger Richardson was in attendance escorted by W.Bro. Adrian Verco along with members and guests.
Good News, after a dry spell of members, three new candidates will be elevated in the next year, at last some work for the Lodge.
There was a fine Festive Board afterwards where Brethren relaxed and joined in good conversation as befits the Royal Ark Mariner Degree.

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master W.Bro. Chris Farrow was in attendance at Hampton Parva RAM Lodge No 1117 in Littlehampton. W.Bro. Glenn Clarke was Proclaimed as Worshipful Commander for the ensuing year, he then proceeded to invest his officers in a most exemplary manner. We then had a most generous donation to the Sussex Mark Benevolent Fund from the Lodge prior to closing the meeting. The Festive Board was something else dining at the Littlehampton & District Angling Club in Fisherman’s Quay for a superb Fish & Chip supper.

Starting off with a hearty Full English Breakfast, followed by the meeting itself with a very interesting talk about Rev. Charles H. Mosse P.Prov.G.M. given by Bro. Anthony Flint. This year the Lodge will transition itself to provide a Lodge for Mark Master Masons with a Military background.

Mike was Advanced in Adur Mark in 1972 and is undoubtedly one of the most stalwart Members of our Sussex Mark – a Fonder of three Lodges and Chairman of the SMBF for many years to mention just a couple of his achievements. Mike has always been there throughout my Mark career and it was my honour and great privileged to Present him with his Certificate.

Thornton Mark Supports Uckfield Food Bank
“No-one ever plans to need the Uckfield Foodbank, but sometimes, things don’t go to plan”
Established in 2013 with the help of local churches, the Uckfield foodbank is a community project ready to help when most needed. Headed up by project manager Lorraine Kirkwood, the foodbank is staffed by 59 volunteers who in 2021/2022 distributed 1,013 food parcels which fed 2,832 people of whom 1,304 were children. That’s a massive 22,091 kg of donated food. They work closely with 40 agencies to “restore dignity and revive hope” thus ensuring their clients situations are resolved and not just a short-term fix. They are an important part in working toward a solution. With the current cost of living crisis, the foodbank also distributing energy vouchers as appropriate to assist with these ever rising and important costs.
On 20th December 2022, Martin Wilson (Chair of the S.M.B.F. CIO. & P.Prov.G.M.) and Duncan Smith (W.M.) of Thornton Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 631, presented a cheque for a total of £600 to Lorraine Kirkwood of the Uckfield Foodbank. £300 from Thornton Mark Lodge, which was matched by a further £300 from the S.M.B.F. CIO. This donation represents ongoing support of this worthwhile charity from one of the many lodges who meet in Uckfield as well as the S.M.B.F. recognising the importance of the Foodbank network across Sussex.

PERSEVERE LODGE OF MARK MASTER MASONS No 732
CENTENARY
Persevere Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 732
Friday 30th September saw a gathering in Brighton to witness the Perseverance Mark Lodge No. 732 as they celebrated their (belated) Centenary.
The Provincial Team, headed by the Prov.G.M. Roger Richardson, attended along with the Sussex Craft Prov.G.M. Christopher Lintern Moore, who also lent his support to the proceedings.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, clashes of diaries and other forces majeures, none of the Grand Lodge Executive were able to be present at the meeting.
Nonetheless, Roger did a first class presentation of the Centenary Warrant in his inimitable style to the acting WM – Jason Charman, followed by an excellent rededication of the Lodge Banner.
All-in-all it was a terrific meeting thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
The evening didn’t end there though; a sumptuous feast including Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding awaited those who dined, and were treated to a fascinating and interesting history of the first hundred years of the Perseverance Lodge No. 732.
As a point of interest it was noted that there will not be another Mark Centenary in Sussex until 2033 – so put this in your diaries now!
